Calculus / My favorite Mathematics Field!
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:30:17 am »
If I could get my Ph.D soley on calculus.. better believe I would do it in a heart beat! :) It is just weird how everything that you learned boils down to this particular class or field of study. You must use all of your tricks to get to the answer and that is why I love it so much! :)

Lovely field of study, what are your opinions on it?

Pre-Calculus / What is your favorite Trig Function?
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:28:28 am »
This would be classified as Pre-Calc seeing as it is trig, therefore what would be your favorite type of trig function? Mine? Well of course it is going to be an inverse!

Cosecant! :) The inverse of Sine! :D

Just it's graph and the way you can simplify things with it is great! What is yours?

Statistics / Statistical Solving
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:26:27 am »
What is your method to solving some of these problems?

Mine is as follows:
  • Read Problem twice over
  • Assess which type of problem it is
  • Try it.. as in.. Use several methods to solve on scratch paper
  • End it

Weird but I have to have scratch paper to get in there and work it out! Lol!

Geometry / Theorems and Postulates Memorization
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:24:33 am »
Do you think that this course is more memorization than math? There is much math involved when you put those theorems to work, but in my high school we never did. It was just applying them directly and then that was it.

Quite fruitless.. Was your geometric journey better?

Got any tips on how to remember these postulates? Let us know here!

Algebra / Differences in College Level and High School Level Algebra
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:08:25 am »
What do you believe are the biggest differences besides the speed of the class? In my opinion the biggest difference is the use of technology by Colleges as opposed to high schools and in some cases the technology is not helpful because just about anyone could do it!

I think that High School helped you learn more seeing as you were there five days a week and not just 2 or 3. Something like that for people to grasp you need at least 4 days!

What do you think about this debate? Which is better College or High School level?

Pre-Alegbra / Where does Pre-Algebra begin?
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:06:13 am »
For me, I skipped the pre-algebra stage and went straight through to Algebra, however, some can not do this. I want to know your opinion on where Pre-Algebra begins and ends. There will also be a topic in the ALGEBRA forum for discussion on where it begins.

IT is hard to say, but I believe that it begins with the introduction of new number systems. Maybe not the COMPLEX number system, but the systems in general, such as the Natural, along with this I also believe that introduction to forumlas such as area and circumference are also part of the pre-algebraic system.

What are your thoughts?
